The Lincoln-Sudbury Civic Orchestra (LSCO), the resident community/student orchestra at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, has announced its winter concert—and also has openings for musicians.
The LSCO will perform two concerts in 2013-2014. Interim Conductor Matthew LaRocca will direct the winter concert on Sunday, January 12 at 3 p.m, when the group will perform Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio Italien, Bartok’s Rumanian Dances and Beethoven’s Symphony #6. The spring concert in June 2014 will be conducted by Ray Daniels, assistant conductor of the Waltham Symphony Orchestra.
LSCO is a volunteer community orchestra comprising high school students and adults from Lincoln and Sudbury who share a love for preparing and performing substantial orchestral repertoire. The members have classical music training at the intermediate to advanced level and rehearse weekly. Although the scores studied and performed are the original professional scores (not arrangements for school ensembles), professional performing experience is not a requirement for membership. Members are not required to reside in Lincoln or Sudbury; the orchestra welcomes musicians regardless of town of residence.
Openings exist in all string sections (first and second violin, viola, cello and bass) as well as trumpet, trombone, oboe/English horn, flute, percussion, and harp. LSCO often needs additional players for especially large orchestral works, and regularly needs substitute players, for both rehearsals and performances. Musicians who can’t commit to the whole season but can join for select rehearsals and concerts are also needed.
The orchestra rehearses every Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the large ensemble room at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, 390 Lincoln Rd., Sudbury, MA. Musicians interested in joining LSCO should contact the Membership Director Lucia Longnecker by email at lscivicorchestra@gmail.com. Interim Director Nicholson can be reached at 978-443-6243.
