Meet some local wildlife, go on a guided walk or a scavenger hunt, and make art at “Wild About Lincoln” on Saturday, June 1 at Drumlin Farm—and it’s all free for Lincoln residents.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., visitors can meet Lincoln’s wildlife, many of which are on display at the sanctuary, including hawks and owls, a turkey, and mammals such as deer, foxes, and a fisher. Special wild animal ambassadors will also greet the public with their handlers.
Visitors to “Wild About Lincoln”—co-sponsored by Mass Audubon‘s Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary and the Lincoln Family Association—can also enjoy guided walks along Drumlin’s trails and discover an array of habitats, go on a scavenger hunt, and even make a “wild” craft to take home as a souvenir of what’s sure to be a memorable day.
Light refreshments will be served. A number of local organizations will have displays. Lincoln author Sue Klem will be on hand to sign copies of her book, The Nature of Lincoln, a collection of columns exploring the town’s natural history, wildlife, plants, and geologic features.
Sanctuary Director Christy Foote-Smith said the event is a way to introduce more people and families to Drumlin Farm, the Lincoln Family Association, and other organizations that help protect the nature of Lincoln, as well as a chance for the community to celebrate its rich natural heritage.
“We’re delighted to partner with the Lincoln Family Association to help residents and neighbors learn more about the natural world right in their own backyard,” Foote-Smith said. “Helping people connect with nature is key to Mass Audubon’s mission, and ‘Wild about Lincoln’ is a perfect event to help do just that.”
