Workshop on We the People Act on March 21
A workshop sponsored by Greater Boston Move To Amend regarding the We the People Act will be held on Saturday, March 21 in Bemis Hall. There will be a reception at 9 a.m. and the program will run from 9:30–11 a.m.
The Lincoln Democratic Town Committee submitted a citizen’s petition for a warrant article to be voted on at the March 28 Lincoln Town Meeting to seek endorsement by Lincoln voters of the “We The People Act” (HD1988), which calls for a constitutional convention to amend the U.S. Constitution. The amendment will state that a) U. S. Constitutional rights are the rights of natural persons, i.e. human individuals, only, and b) Congress and the states shall place limits on political contributions and expenditures to ensure that all citizens have access to the political process, and recognize that the spending of money to influence elections is not protected free speech under the First Amendment.
This workshop will describe the bill along with a history of the Constitution and corporations and recent Supreme Court decisions as part of a national initiative to overturn the Supreme Court decision in Citizens United v. Federal Elections Commission.
