Letter to the editor: Support Conroy for state treasurer

September 8, 2014

letterTo the editor:

I am writing to urge all to support our former state representative Tom Conroy for state treasurer, and to read this special note from another former Lincoln state representative, Jay Kaufman.

I am including a portion of a post from Rep. Kaufman. His newsletter carries an important note about the Governor’s Council race—a race many of us are uninformed about.

Excerpt from Kaufman’s newsletter:

Governor’s Council Race

Many of us received a scathing letter attacking Charlie Shapiro, candidate for the Governor’s Council, and, knowing of my endorsement of Charlie, some have asked me about that letter. It is allegedly from the incumbent’s fellow Council members, yet all three of those reached report that they had never seen, much less signed on to, the letter. So consider the letter’s source. Charlie has been criticizing “business as usual” on the Council and the qualifications and qualities of the incumbent in particular. Her ad hominem attacks, not to mention total fabrications and misrepresentations, speak to why it is time she is replaced on the Council by someone unquestionably qualified and smart. I encourage you to take that fraudulent and grossly inaccurate letter as People’s Exhibit #1 in the case for Charlie Shapiro for Governor’s Council.

Feel free to call or email with questions or thoughts.

Best, Jay

In addition, I would like to urge all voters in joining me in voting for Tom Conroy for state treasurer. I served as a selectman when Tom was our state rep. He as always attentive to Lincoln’s concerns, smart, responsive and very politically savvy.

The office of State Treasurer should be of special interest to Lincoln in the near future, as the state treasurer is chairman of the board of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA). We look forward to a renewed effort to bring forward a school building project that will gain support of the town and then financing from the MSBA. Tom has made a special point in his campaign to highlight his commitment to issues in education. He has expressed concern for communities such as ours in financing building projects that reflect our unique community character. In addition, he recognizes the challenges of financing quality education, especially special education, for small communities such as Lincoln.

Tom will not only bring his financial and political savvy to the office of state treasurer, he will bring his special connection to our community. Please join me in heading to the polls to support Tom Conroy for state treasurer.

Sincerely,

Sara Mattes
