Gentle yoga
April 9, 16, 23, 30, May 7, 14 at 9 a.m.
Would you like to try yoga but are concerned it may be too rigorous for you? Try the COA’s new gentle yoga class with experienced instructor Jai Kaur Annamaria San Antonio. The class will be held on six Wednesday mornings at 9 a.m. beginning on April 9 at a cost of $30 for the course. You may do the class on the floor or in a chair and the instructor will help you adapt the poses to your special needs. You may try one class free. Getting ready to sign up for Medicare?
April 9 at 7 p.m.
Are you or a family member about to turn 65 and sign up for Medicare? The process of choosing among many different plans to find the best for your circumstances and budget can be daunting, but you can get a head start by coming to a program on Wednesday, April 9, at 7 p.m. in the Donaldson Room of Town Offices at 16 Lincoln Rd. Don Milan and Anne Meade, Lincoln’s SHINE counselors, will present a basic explanation of what those turning 65 need to know about Medicare and supplementary insurance benefits. It also will be useful for anyone having general questions about Medicare.
Old Town Hall Exchange crafts workshop: mixed media collage
April 11 at 10 a.m.
Learn to make a mixed media collage with artist Laurie Bogdan on Friday, April 11 at 10 a.m. at Bemis Hall at a workshop sponsored by the Old Town Hall Exchange! Laurie will show you how to take everyday objects—game set pieces, magazine and catalog pictures, fabric, photos, and more—and combine them into a beautiful, sometimes whimsical collage using glue, paint, markers, and anything else you can imagine. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Lincoln Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. The workshop costs $15. Stay a step ahead of scammers
April 11 at 10 a.m.
The Lincoln Police are dealing with more and more cases of Lincoln’s older residents losing their identities or sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars to criminals through identity theft and fraud. Every day new scams and forms of identity theft are popping up. Learn some of the latest scams and frauds when Lincoln Police Office Ian Spencer comes to Bemis Hall on Friday, April 11 at 10 am. He will tell you about some of the cases the police are finding as well as basic tips to protect yourself. In addition he will demonstrate some basic physical self-defense moves to help you stay safe on the streets.
Movement and exercise for Parkinson’s disease
April 11 at 1 p.m.
If you or a loved one has Parkinson’s disease, please come to Bemis Hall on Friday, April 11 at 1 p.m. to learn about Emerson Hospital’s highly intensive and effective LSVT BIG program providing physical therapy, movement and exercise to improve walking functional mobility and balance. Physical therapists from the program will discuss how it can help manage and improve Parkinson’s symptoms and demonstrate some of the body movements and exercises that participants learn.
Lincoln Academy—Charles Willie: The Benefit of Marginal People in Social Action
April 14 at 12:30 p.m.
Come to Bemis Hall on Monday, April 14 at 12:30 to hear Charles Willie discuss “The Benefit of Marginal People in Social Action.” Bring a bag lunch. The COA will provide beverages and dessert. The lectures last about an hour, including a question and answer period. Participants are welcome to stay after the program to continue their discussion.
Senior dining
April 15 at 11:30 a.m.
Lincoln seniors are invited to a gourmet meal in an elegant setting at 11:30 on Tuesday, April 15 at St. Anne’s Church. You must reserve by calling the COA at (781) 259-8811 at least a week ahead even if you have previously attended. The cost of each meal is $5. Caregivers are welcome to come with those for whom they are caring. Let the COA know if you need transportation or a seating partner. The lunch is co-sponsored by the COA, the Friends of the COA, Minuteman Senior Services, and St. Anne’s. And the volunteer serving staff consists of your Lincoln friends and neighbors.
Expedition cruises: journeys into a world of natural wonder
April 18 at 10 a.m.
Our world is full of natural wonders that, until now, you could only see in films and magazines. Now, through expedition cruises, you can see nature’s most amazing creations in the Galapagos, Antarctica, Alaska, Central America, and more! These cruises, accompanied by naturalists and wildlife photographers, feature expeditions in zodiacs, special small boats that allow you to go right into the heart of places inaccessible before. To learn more about expedition cruises, come to Bemis Hall on Friday, April 18, at 10 a.m. when Peggy Dawson, Travel Adviser and Accredited Cruise Counselor, will let you know more about expedition cruises, where they go, how much they cost, and how to join one!
Lincoln remembers the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s
April 23 at 10 a.m.
What do you remember of life in Lincoln in the ’50s, ’60 and ’70s? How has the landscape, the rhythm of life, and how people socialize changed over the years? Come share your story and listen to what others remember (you don’t have to have lived in Lincoln during those years to come!) on Wednesday, April 23 at 10 a.m. at Bemis Hall. Martha Lufkin will lead the discussion and may take notes on your stories if you like. Tell us what you loved about Lincoln in those days!
Be a smarter driver
April 25 at 10 a.m.
The COA is pleased to offer the AARP Smart Driving program on Friday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bemis Hall. The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Find out about the new technologies in cars, get a refresher on the rules of the road, and learn how to drive more safely by learning to compensate for health-related changes and how to handle road rage. The class involves no tests or actual driving, and you will receive a certificate upon completion of the class that may qualify you for reduced insurance rates. Bring a lunch! Kitchen legal chat

Do you have legal questions you would like answered? Call the COA (up to the day of the event) at 781-259-8811 to make a 15-minute appointment to have a chat around their kitchen table with Lincoln attorney Martha Lufkin on Monday, April 28 between 10 and 11:30 a.m. Martha will provide legal information and will answer questions, but will not be acting as your attorney or giving you legal advice. If there is interest, the COA may continue the “kitchen legal chats”!

Join artist Suzette Durso in making a flower pop-up card on Tuesday, April 29 at 10 a.m. at Bemis Hall at a workshop sponsored by the Old Town Hall Exchange. This flat card blooms into an arrangement of seven flowers, a perfect card for a special occasion. Origami folds are used to make this card. Let someone know you are thinking of them by giving them this beautiful card. Sublime sunflowers—pastel paint like the masters
May 2 at 1 p.m.
The COA is pleased to present award-winning pastel artist Greg Maichack who will offer his new hands-on workshop for beginners to advanced artists in pastel painting on Friday, May 2 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Bemis Hall. Mr. Maichack will provide insights into the lives of van Gogh, Monet, and O’Keefe, who painted sunflowers, and then participants will be coached to create their own sunflower paintings.
