Letter to the editor: Five residents write in support Braun

March 16, 2014

Received March 16

letter

To the editor:

We are writing this letter to urge all Lincoln citizens to vote in the upcoming town elections and to support Peter Braun for re-election as Lincoln selectman. These are difficult times politically which call for experienced hands to guide us through. Over the next several years, there will be need for large capital expenditures for the Lincoln schools, for a community center to serve the needs of Lincoln’s older citizens, and for anticipated conservation purchases. With reduced national military expenditures, the specter of Hanscom’s closing is again on the political horizon.

Peter has served the town tirelessly on all of the committees that will be involved in helping to guide Lincoln through these issues. He has served on the Finance Committee, the Capital Planning Committee, the Community Preservation Committee, the School Building Project Committee and the HATS committee.  Peter is a person with strong opinions gained from his long experience, but he is always asking questions and is prepared to change to accommodate input from colleagues.  He has put in the time in service of the community and fully understands and supports the “Lincoln way.”

In a time when governance and politics are much devalued in the public discourse, sometimes the argument is presented that new ideas are a substitute for hard-earned, hands-on experience. Governance is difficult work.  It requires practice and often unappreciated long hours spent on matters that most citizens only become interested in when big decisions need to be made. Our opinion is that the best governance outcomes occur when those who are making decisions have taken the time and energy to participate in the governance process, taking on leadership as they have earned it from their hard work and past performance.

These times call for experienced leadership. Peter Braun is the candidate that can provide that for Lincoln.

Sincerely,

Jack French
