Candidate forums scheduled, Town Meeting warrant published

March 3, 2014

Editor’s note: This post was updated on March 4 to incorporate several corrections.

The two major local voting days—Annual Town Meeting and the town election—are coming up fast, and two town-wide candidate forums are on tap.

Annual Town Meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 29. The warrant is available on this Town of Lincoln webpage. More information about the meeting will be available in upcoming Lincoln Squirrel posts.

The Republican and Democratic Town Committees are co-sponsoring a nonpartisan forum for all the candidates for town elective offices in  Bemis Hall on Saturday, March 15 from 2-4 p.m. The election for positions in town government is March 31. All candidates for the elective offices, whether contested or uncontested, are encouraged to attend to describe their qualifications and reasons they seek these offices.

The Lincoln School PTO is also sponsoring a candidate forum on Friday, March 7 from 8:15-9:30 a.m. in the Lincoln School library story room. Please contact PTO President Carole Kasper at ckasper00@verizon.net or 781-259-0134 for more information.

Voter registration deadlines

Friday, March 7 is the deadline for new voters to register if they wish to participate in the Annual Town Meeting on March 29 and/or the Annual Town Election on March 31. The Town Clerk’s Office will be open until 8 p.m. on that date in order to accommodate registrants. Basic requirements for registration are: (1) U.S. citizenship; (2) resident of the Town of Lincoln, (3) 18 years of age. Registration can be made in person at the Town Clerk’s Office any Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or by a mail-in registration form available at any public building in the Commonwealth. Mail-in registration forms must be postmarked by March 7, 2014.

Absentee ballots will be available for the Annual Town Election on or around March 5. A written request is required before receiving an Absentee ballot. The ballot may be voted at the Town Clerk’s Office during office hours or the applicant may request that it be mailed to a specified address. Massachusetts law does not permit persons to pick up Absentee Ballots for another person, although Applications for absentee ballots may be made by family members. There is no absentee voting for the Annual Town Meeting.

Here’s the final list of the candidates on the March 31 election ballot. Positions with asterisks indicate contested seats (see bottom of page).
