How to publish legal notices

To submit a legal notice to the Lincoln Squirrel:

  • Compose the notice in Microsoft Word or Google Docs. Hints:
    • No need to convert it to a PDF, though you can if you like — any format is fine.
    • You can include embedded links in the notice if desired (see below).
  • Attach the file to an email and send it to lincolnsquirrelnews@gmail.com. In the email itself, state the date(s) that the notice must run on the Squirrel website. If it needs to appear twice, be sure to indicate both dates.
  • The notice can include one image such as the town logo.
  • Please don’t include attachments other than an optional single image (see above).
  • If you want to include a link for readers to find more information, please be sure to embed the link. To quickly create an embedded link in a Word document or email:
    1. Highlight the word(s) that will appear as a highlighted link
    2. Hit Control K (Windows) or Command K (Mac)
    3. Paste in the full URL of the web page that people will see when they click on the link.
  • Include the name and email address for whoever should be invoiced — either a specific Town of Lincoln department/person/account, or a third party such as a property owner.
  • Include your own name, email address, and direct phone number in case of questions.
  • Once the notice is posted, the Lincoln Squirrel will invoice to the payer detailing the cost, payment options, and reference to the specific notice in question.

How the notices will appear

When a new notice has been published, a post will appear on the Lincoln Squirrel home page with a link to the specific notice. That post alerting readers to the new notice, as well as the notice itself (which resides under the “Legal Notices” tab at the top of the page), will be accessible for one year to anyone who visits www.lincolnsquirrel.com, regardless of whether or not they’re a subscriber. Here is an example.

Timing

Notices must be emailed to the Lincoln Squirrel at least seven business days before the requested date of publication. A notice may be published twice; the second publication will be 25% off the original cost.

Cost

  • The Lincoln Squirrel will charge a flat $70 fee for a one-time publication of a legal notices of any length.
  • If a notice must appear more than once, there is an additional fee of $50 for each publication.

Payment

If the Town of Lincoln is the payer, there are several options:

  • Mail a check made out to “Watusi Words” to:

Alice Waugh
178 Weston Rd.
Lincoln MA 01773

  • Send payment via Zelle to lincolnsquirrelnews@gmail.com
  • Send payment via Venmo to @Watusi-words

If someone else such as a property owner is to be billed, please include their billing information (including email address) when you send the notice to the Squirrel.
