Codman Community Farms will hold a Chili Cookout and Campout on Saturday, June 17 from 6–9:30 p.m. Vegetarian and pasture-raised beef chili as well as chili dogs made from Codman-grown ingredients will be on offer. Sides include CCF-made potato salad, cornbread, and cookies. Bring a favorite drink, gather around the campfire, stuff yourself with s’mores, and sing with friends. The Food Project invites everyone to its annual Farm Lunch on Wednesday, July 12 at the intersection of Baker Bridge Road and Route 126. Learn informally about TFP’s mission and programming, including through conversations with teenage members of Root Crew, professional farmers, and regional directors. Arrive by noon for a walking tour of the farm. A complimentary buffet lunch including vegetarian options featuring items from the farm will be provided at 12:30 p.m. as everyone gathers at picnic tables or under the pavilion. While philanthropic support of The Food Project is always welcomed, there is no expectation of a donation associated with these community building events. Lincoln residents age 60+ are invited to hear a concert at Tanglewood on Sunday, July 30. Before the show, there will be a brunch at Shortstop Bar & Grill in Westfield. The Boston Symphony Orchestra will play Ellen Reid’s When the World as You’ve Known It Doesn’t Exist, Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 1 and Prokofiev’s Suite from Romeo and Juliet. The family of Homer Eckhardt (1924-2023) invites community members to join family, friends, and neighbors to help celebrate his life on Sunday, Sept. 17 from 2–4 p.m. in Bemis Hall. A founding member of the historic Brown’s Woods neighborhood, Homer continued to be an active participant in the Lincoln community during the 67 years he lived in town, through activities as varied as helping to found the Codman Community Farms, volunteering in science classes in the Lincoln Public Schools, and enjoying fellowship at the Men’s Coffee Group.
The 11th annual Scarecrow Classic 5K kicks off on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 9:30 a.m. at Lincoln Station. This community road and trail run, which supports LLCT’s conservation mission, wind through scenic fields and forests, ending the morning with a cider donut. This year, LLCT is hosting magician Cedric Purcell to entertain guests before the awards ceremony. Brain Games is the Doo family’s annual fundraiser benefiting moyamoya research at Boston Children’s Hospital in honor of the care received by their daughter, who was diagnosed with the rare brain disease moyamoya in June 2019 and has had three surgeries since. Their goal this year is to raise $100,000 to continue funding her surgeon’s research, where 100% of the event’s proceeds go.
The Council on Aging and Human Service’s newly formed doo-wop group led by Peter Stewart will perform a short concert in Bemis Hall from 11-11:30 a.m. (senior dining to follow). The First Parish in Lincoln’s Racial Justice Advocates invite residents to “Food for Thought” on Wednesday, Nov. 8. They will serve a simple supper at 5:30 p.m. in the parish house followed by a presentation and discussion on “Challenges and Hopes for Racial Equity in Maternal Health Care: What’s Happening in Boston.” The speaker will be Mariane McPherson, co-chair of the Neighborhood Birth Center board and is a Senior Director at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in Roxbury.
