Donelan’s receipts bring in goodies for schools

June 14, 2013

donelan's comp2Kids and teachers will see some new items in the Lincoln School next year as a result of the PTO redeeming several months’ worth of collected Donelan’s grocery receipts.

From September 2012 to March 2013, Donelan’s customers were invited to drop their grocery receipts on one of three collection boxes in town. PTO volunteers led by Kmberly Bodnar collected and totaled the receipts and redeemed them through the Register Tapes for Education program. Helping with that formidable task were Lara Anthony, Melissa Henken, Carole Kasper, Julie Kelleher, Hillery Maxymillian, Eloise Patterson, Maggy Pietropaolo, Christine Pillar and Jena Salon.

Donelan’s is also one of several PTO Community Partners (see related story).

The total cash value of the receipts was $138,428. With input from teachers, school principals Steve McKenna and Sharon Hobbs went on a shopping spree and used the accumulated points to purchase the following (click on links to see similar items):

  • A Dura-Rite markerboard
  • A giant solar bag
  • Two “Predator—The Food Chain” games
